Precipitation and Temperature Climatologies over India: A Study with AGCM Large Ensemble Climate Simulations

چکیده
This study investigated the precipitation and temperature climatologies over India from large ensemble (100 members) historical climate simulations in two recent past periods (1951–1980 1981–2010). The main focus was to statistically examine usefulness of such by discussing (1) their distribution patterns, (2) annual cycle climatologies, (3) frequency distributions potential spatial patterns variability. We applied empirical orthogonal function understand characteristics normal probability investigate frequency. Results indicated good agreements these ensembles simulated results with observation Indian region. amount many regions is decreased entire increased 1981–2010 compared that 1951–1980. precipitations a decrease amounts June through October, while an increase for months November January. during July March. monthly temperatures indicate overall period. reason period attributed relative humidity cloud together weaker vertical velocity region 1981–2010. Overall validates assessment suggests datasets may be used various purposes related weather India.

Estimating ensemble size requirements of AGCM simulations
This study investigates the statistical methods for determining the minimum sample size necessary for an ensemble set generated with an atmospheric general circulation model. Due to the limits imposed by computational cost, an improved and a priori estimation of ensemble size is highly desirable. In this context, the methodology shown here is an important step for defining the number of integra...
متن کاملEvaluation and future projections of temperature, precipitation and wind extremes over Europe in an ensemble of regional climate simulations
Temperature, precipitation and wind extremes over Europe are examined in an ensemble of RCA3 regional climate model simulations driven by six different global climate models (ECHAM5, CCSM3, HadCM3, CNRM, BCM and IPSL) under the SRES A1B emission scenario. The extremes are expressed in terms of the 20-yr return values of annual temperature and wind extremes and seasonal precipitation extremes. T...

[1] We present results from a series of ensemble integrations of a global coupled atmosphere-ocean model for the period 1865–1997. Each ensemble consists of three integrations initialized from different points in a long-running GFDL R30 coupled model control simulation. The first ensemble includes time-varying forcing from greenhouse gases only. In the remaining three ensembles, forcings from a...
متن کاملRecent Enhanced Seasonal Temperature Contrast in Japan from Large Ensemble High-Resolution Climate Simulations
Since the late 1990s, land surface temperatures over Japan have increased during the summer and autumn, while global mean temperatures have not risen in this duration (i.e., the global warming hiatus). In contrast, winter and spring temperatures in Japan have decreased. To assess the impact of both global warming and global-scale decadal variability on this enhanced seasonal temperature contras...
متن کاملEnsemble yield simulations: crop and climate uncertainties, sensitivity to temperature and genotypic adaptation to climate change
Estimates of the response of crops to climate change rarely quantify the uncertainty inherent in the simulation of both climate and crops. We present a crop simulation ensemble for a location in India, perturbing the response of both crop and climate under both baseline (12 720 simulations) and doubled-CO2 (171 720 simulations) climates. Some simulations used parameter values representing genot...
